OPEN SPACES IN THE CITY OF THE 21ST CENTURY: BEAUTY - ETHICS - ECOLOGY

THE VIII INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE OF ARCHITECTURE (MBA) 2000 which has been placed in the calendar of events of the Festival CRACOW 2000 - EUROPEAN CITY OF CULTURE, will be held in Cracow from 6th to 8th of October, 2000.
The general subject of the Biennale 2000 is the idea of the role of the open spaces in the city of the new millennium, expressed by its motto: BEAUTY-ETHICS-ECOLOGY.
The architectural competition within the frameworks of the Biennale will be held in two categories: Design Confrontations and Confrontations-Exhibition concerning the main subject of the VIII Biennale.
The entries will be displayed at the exhibition in the Palace of Art (Palac Sztuki), 4 Szczepanski Sq. Besides, the Biennale will be accompanied by the events such as architectural exhibitions, promotions of firms, presentations and "debates".

THE SUBJECT AND AIMS OF THE COMPETITION IN THE DESIGN CONFRONTATIONS CATEGORY
This part of the VIII International Biennale of Architecture will be dedicated to the surroundings of the B3onia Krakowskie (Cracow Common). The area of B3onia (Common) is a special to Cracow as the Fields of Mars to Paris, Hyde Park to London or the Central Park to New York. The contestants are expected to provide the functional/spatial solutions creating mostly the landscape of this part of te city in the categories of art - in accordance with the basic motto of the Biennale: BEAUTY - ETHICS - ECOLOGY.

THE SUBJECT AND AIMS OF THE COMPETITION IN THE CATEGORY CONFRONTATIONS - EXHIBITION
The subject of the Confrontations-Exhibition corresponds with the main subject ot the Biennale: "The open spaces in the city of th 21st century". The organiseres expect the ideological authors' presentations of various forms of expression

INFORMATION OF THE WAY THE COMPETITION WILL BE CONDUCTED
The character of the competition in both categories is international, study-and ideologically-oriented. The international Jury - chairman Stanis3aw Fiszer (France) - will announce the results awarding three equivalent first prizes of 20.000 PLN (~5000 USD) in each categories. The Grand Prix honorary prize will be chosen from among the awarded entries.
The competition begins on the 19th of March, 2000 and the deadline for submtting entries is 19th of September, 2000 (according to the date of the post stamp). The results will be announced on the day of the Biennale's opening - 6th of October, 2000.

THE RULES OF PURCHASE OF THE CONDITIONS OF THE PARTICIPATION THE VIII MBA

The cost of the conditions for the Polish participants is 400PLN, for the foreign participants - 100 USD. For the students the price is reduced to 50%.
The conditions can be purchased in the Biennale Office (Pl. Szczepanski 6, Kraków) and in all SARP Offices by c.o.d, or making payment to the following bank account:
